Industry Awards
ERMCO, Inc. was named as Subcontractor of the Year by Turner Construction three years in a row, from 2003 to 2005 and again in 2007. This reward is especially rewarding based on the fact that nominations are made by the Project Managers and field management teams of Turner and are based on a "grass roots" relationship between ERMCO's and Turner's project teams. Turner is one of the largest construction companies in the world and a major factor in the Indiana market, thus making the competition for this award very great. Each nomination is for a particular project and most importantly, each year the award was made to a different ERMCO project team. (Unofficially, we were told that there were multiple teams nominated each year- only one was allowed to be named.) At the 2006 awards ceremony, Turner's Indiana President, Mike Kaiman, joked that they were going to re-name the award the "ERMCO." Another honor for ERMCO came when Top Notch of Indiana, a coalition of the Union Trades and the Contractors of Indiana who employee union craftspersons, celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2006. As a part of this celebration, Top Notch named the "30 at 30," a list of the 30 most influential people within the construction industry over the past 30 years. ERMCO was honored to learn that President, Darrell Gossett, was among those named to this prestigious list. In 2005, ERMCO was nominated and ultimately awarded the Better Business Bureau of Central Indiana's Torch Award for Business Ethics. To be recognized for this award was the culmination of the many years of efforts by the owners and management of ERMCO to instill a sense of the importance of ethics and integrity throughout the company. This award was celebrated extensively throughout the company at many events following the award. While BBB rules prevented 2005 winners from participating in consecutive years, ERMCO was an integral part of the 2006 competition, agreeing to sponsor a "Student of Ethics" Award, in conjunction with the Edward M. Gossett Foundation, an scholarship awards organization named after ERMCO's founder and funded by the Gossett family. Sometimes recognition has come from unexpected places and that is a great honor. For example, ERMCO's President, Darrell Gossett, has been nominated by Clifton Gunderson, in 2006 and again in 2007, for the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. Ironically, the nominations came following Clifton Gunderson's replacement by Crowe Chizek as ERMCO's outside CPA firm, after many years of the ERMCO and C-G working together. When quizzed as to why they would make the nomination under the existing circumstances, Clifton Gunderson Principal, Jim Hartman, stated, "We have worked together for many, many years; we have a great deal of respect for Mr. Gossett and the entire ERMCO organization. The fact that they have made a difficult business decision does not diminish the fact that they are a highly ethical organization with quality business practices and the integrity that makes this a very viable nomination, based on the standards of the competition." ERMCO has also received numerous safety awards, including 3rd Place Nationally in the Specialty Contractor Category by the Associated General Contractors Association, Amerisure's Award for Top Safety Program for an Associate Member in Indiana. |
