It can be difficult to identify what is going on in a building, how it is operating and how it uses energy, especially in facilities with older control systems. Clients may not have the information they need, such as space temperatures and occupancy schedules, to be able to identify the areas in their buildings that are consuming unneeded energy.
Data logging is a way to get this information. When I conduct data logging, I am recording data such as light levels and temperature. This gives a client an understanding of the temperature set points and occupancy of a given space and we can see how energy is being used throughout their building.
Once we have data to analyze, we can develop solutions. And the client can make informed decisions about how to modify their controls or operations to reduce energy consumption or upgrade to a newer integrated controls system that can implement energy savings strategies for them.
