We’re excited to share that ERMCO is now a UL 508A certified panel shop. That means we’ve completed a third-party audit of our panel design and build processes and are officially authorized to apply the UL mark to qualifying industrial control panels we manufacture in-house.
While this certification is exciting for us, we are even more excited about what it means for you.
What is UL 508A?
UL 508A is a nationally recognized safety standard for the design and fabrication of industrial control panels. Certification confirms that panels built under this program meet specific requirements for things like spacing, labeling, wiring, and component selection, and that a documented, auditable process is followed every time.
What types of control panels are included in this certification?
This certification applies to a wide range of industrial and building automation panels including those used for HVAC systems, lighting control, energy management, motor control centers, process equipment, and more. Whether it’s a standalone enclosure or part of a larger system, if the panel controls equipment or manages electrical signals, it likely falls under the scope of UL 508A.
Why it matters:
Faster inspections - Local inspectors and authorities typically recognize the UL mark, which can reduce the time and back-and-forth needed for on-site labeling or compliance.
Project-ready panels - UL panels come fully labeled and documented. This minimizes surprises in the field and helps avoid rework or inspection delays.
Built-in confidence - The UL mark is third-party verification that the panels meet known safety standards. It’s often required in specs and RFQs, even when it’s not called out specifically.
Broader reach - UL 508A also allows us to ship compliant panels throughout the United States and Canada. That’s especially helpful for clients with national or regional operations.
What’s changing?
Not much. Behind the scenes, our engineering and fabrication teams have always followed procedures that align with industry standards. From how we select components and calculate clearances to how we label, inspect, and document each build, these practices have been in place. The difference now is that we can provide certified, third-party proof of that through our UL 508A listing.
Need a UL-labeled panel or not sure if you do?
We’re happy to help clarify what’s required for your application. Just reach out. Our team can review the specs and let you know when UL 508A applies.
